Study in Germany from Nepal

Study in Germany from Nepal, for the semester fee, not the tuition.

Germany suits strong students on small budgets who will learn German. Most public universities charge no tuition, only a semester contribution of about €150 to €400. The main cost is the €11,904 a year you show in a blocked account. Year 1 costs about Rs 21 to Rs 21.9 lakh. 89.9% of our 168 Germany files were approved in FY 2025/26.

The short version

Germany in numbers.

Germany is the strongest choice we have for a good student on a small budget: no tuition at most public universities, respected degrees, and 18 months to find a job after.

The catch is time and language. Germany takes 6 to 9 months to plan, +2 is rarely direct entry, and most part-time jobs need German.

The table has the rules; the visa section and the process put them in order.

Germany for Nepali students: the key numbers
TuitionNone at most public universities; a semester contribution of about €150 to €400. Baden-Württemberg charges non-EU students €1,500 a semester.Full guide

MarksConverted to the German grade (1.0 is best, 4.0 is a pass). Most master's we shortlist ask 2.5 or better.
English and GermanMany master's are taught in English (IELTS 6.5 typical). Bachelor's often need German B2 or C1.
ApplyingThrough uni-assist or directly. Winter-semester deadlines are often 15 July; many international programmes close earlier.
Work while studying140 full days or 280 half days a year. Student assistant jobs don't count towards the limit.

The blocked account is your monthly budget

You show €11,904 and it pays out €992 a month. That's what most students live on outside Munich and Frankfurt, sharing a flat (a WG).

Working while you study

140 full days or 280 half days a year. Mini-jobs pay the German minimum wage; student assistant jobs at the university don't count towards the limit.

  • Most part-time jobs need German. A2 to B1 before you fly makes a real difference.
  • English-only jobs exist in Berlin and in tech, but competition is high.
  • Public health insurance is compulsory: about €120 to €140 a month.

Plan year 1 as if you'll earn nothing. The blocked account covers living costs; part-time pay is a bonus, not the budget.

Jobs after study

Engineering, IT, data and the sciences have the strongest demand, and German employers hire graduates of German universities. A degree plus German at B2 or above opens most doors; English alone opens far fewer.

Daily life

Register your address (Anmeldung) within two weeks, and expect paperwork in German. Teaching is independent: fewer classes, more self-study, and exams that count for most of the grade.

Your German national visa, step by step

You apply for a national (D) visa for study at the German Embassy in Kathmandu. Book a slot the day the admission letter arrives, because appointments run months out.

  • Admission letter from the university (or a Studienkolleg)
  • Proof of funds: the €11,904 blocked account confirmation, or a formal obligation letter
  • Health insurance for the start of your stay
  • Certified academic documents, CV and motivation letter
  • APS certificate, only if a certificate is from India or China

The fee is €75. Decisions usually take 6 to 12 weeks. In Germany you then collect a residence permit for study from the local foreigners' office.

After the visa

Your first weeks in Germany.

Your first two weeks

Register your address (Anmeldung), activate your blocked account payouts, open a German bank account, enrol at the university and book your residence permit appointment.

Your counsellor calls on day 1 and after week 1. Your parents get the same updates you do.

Study and work, honestly

German courses expect self-study and exams count for most of the grade. Keep learning German in year 1: it decides your part-time job and, later, your career.

After graduation

You get up to 18 months to find a job in your field. With a qualifying job you move to an EU Blue Card or a skilled worker permit, and permanent residence can follow sooner with good German.

We stay with you

The same counsellor stays with you through year 1: blocked account problems, residence permits, a change of programme. If it needs a German lawyer or adviser, we'll say so.

Honest fit

Should you choose Germany?

Good fit

Choose Germany if

  • You have a strong bachelor's (German grade around 2.5 or better).
  • You will learn German, at least to A2 before you fly.
  • Your budget is small, but you can fund the blocked account.

An honest note

Look elsewhere if

  • You've just finished +2 and want direct entry to a bachelor's.
  • You're counting on part-time work without any German.
  • You need to start within 3 months: Germany takes planning.

Europe isn't the cheap backup to Australia. Germany is a great choice for the right student, and a costly one for a student who picked it because a Facebook post said free education. The tuition may be zero; the blocked account, the language and the time are not.

FAQ

What families ask us about Germany.

Is studying in Germany free for Nepali students?

At most public universities there's no tuition, only a semester contribution of about €150 to €400. Baden-Württemberg charges non-EU students €1,500 a semester. You still need €11,904 a year for living costs.

Can I study in Germany after +2 from Nepal?

Usually not directly. You need a Studienkolleg, a foundation year with an entrance test, or a year of university study in Nepal first.

Do Nepali students need an APS certificate for Germany?

Only if your school or university certificates are from India or China. Nationality doesn't decide it: a Nepali with an Indian degree needs APS India. Nepal-only certificates don't need APS.

How much is the blocked account for Germany?

€11,904 a year, paid out at €992 a month after you arrive.

Can I work in Germany as a student?

Yes: 140 full days or 280 half days a year. Most jobs need some German.

What do you charge for Germany?

Most public German universities pay no commission, so we charge a flat Rs 25,000 for the full service, told on day one before any work starts.

What is your Germany visa success rate?

151 of the 168 Germany files we lodged in FY 2025/26 were approved: 89.9%.
