Study in Sweden from Nepal

Study in Sweden from Nepal, in English, with a year to find work after.

Sweden suits graduates who want an English-taught master's at a strong university. Non-EU students pay tuition (SEK 90,000 to SEK 160,000 a year on our shortlists) and show SEK 10,656 a month. Note the 2026 change: new permits allow 15 hours of work a week. 93.8% of our 96 Sweden files were approved in FY 2025/26.

The short version

Sweden in numbers.

Sweden has some of Europe's best-known universities and teaches almost every master's in English. It's a planning country: one main round, closing in January.

From 11 June 2026, new student permits allow 15 hours of work a week in term. So budget as if the money you show is all you'll have.

The table has the rules; the visa section and the process put them in order.

Plan your budget without big part-time earnings

Migrationsverket asks you to show SEK 10,656 a month. With the new work limit, that money has to carry you, so the city you pick matters.

Working while you study

For permits granted on or after 11 June 2026: 15 hours a week for bachelor's and master's students, except June to August and internships.

  • Fifteen hours a week won't cover rent in most cities. Plan your money as if it won't.
  • Summer months are free of the limit.
  • Swedish isn't needed for your course, but it is for most part-time jobs.

Budget year 1 on the money you show, not on what you might earn.

Jobs after study

Engineering, IT, life sciences and sustainability are where Sweden hires. Many graduates get their first job through a master's thesis done with a company.

Daily life

Teaching is informal and group-based, and deadlines are strict. Winters are long in the north. Swedes are reserved at first; student associations (nations in Lund and Uppsala) are where friendships start.

After the visa

Your first weeks in Sweden.

Your first week

If your permit runs over a year, get a personal number from the Swedish Tax Agency first; the bank account and student union come after it.

Your counsellor calls on day 1 and after week 1. Your parents get the same updates.

Study and work, honestly

Fifteen hours of work a week is the limit for new permits. Students who struggle are the ones who planned on 20. Summer is when you can work full-time.

After graduation

You can apply for a permit to look for work or start a business for up to 12 months. With a job offer that meets the salary rules, you move to a work permit.

We stay with you

The same counsellor stays with you through year 1, for permit extensions, a thesis placement or a housing problem.

Honest fit

Should you choose Sweden?

Good fit

Choose Sweden if

  • You want an English-taught master's and can fund it without much work.
  • You plan ahead: the main round closes in January.
  • You're open to cities beyond Stockholm.

An honest note

Look elsewhere if

  • You need 20 hours of work a week to pay rent.
  • You're counting on a Swedish Institute scholarship without checking eligibility.
  • You want to start in less than 6 months.

Build the budget on the rules you'll actually have. A Sweden plan written before June 2026 assumed more work hours than a new permit allows. We rewrite every Sweden budget on the 15-hour rule.
