Country by country

The best countries for nursing, compared.

Nursing is taught in many countries, but registering is what counts. Start from the job you want, then find the country where this degree actually leads to it, and what it takes to get in.

Entry requirements

Marks, tests and papers to have ready.

  • +2 in science (biology) for a bachelor’s; PCL or BSc Nursing for credit or graduate entry
  • IELTS 6.5 to 7 for entry at most universities we work with
  • Registration-level English at the end: in Australia, for tests from 23 April 2026, 7 in listening, reading and speaking and 6.5 in writing

Diploma, bachelor or master

Pick the level that matches your marks.

  • Bachelor of Nursing (3 years in Australia and the UK) after +2 science, with credit for a PCL diploma at some universities.
  • Graduate-entry Master of Nursing (about 2 years) if you have a health degree, and want to register as a nurse.
  • Specialist master's (mental health, critical care) only after registration and experience.

Registration and language

The licence that comes after the degree.

Registration is the whole point. In Australia you register with the Nursing and Midwifery Board (NMBA); in the UK with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). Only accredited courses lead there.

Registration English is higher than entry English: in Australia, for tests from 23 April 2026, 7 in listening, reading and speaking and 6.5 in writing. Plan to reach it by your final year.

After study

Jobs, honestly.

  • Registered nurse in hospitals and aged care
  • Community and mental health nursing
  • Specialist roles after experience (theatre, emergency, ICU)

Nursing is demanding: clinical placements, shift work and a high English bar for registration. Choose it because you want to nurse, not because someone said it leads to PR.

How we help

What we do on your nursing file.

Our nursing counsellor checks every course against the registration body before it goes on your shortlist, and works out any credit for your PCL or work experience.

We plan your English in two steps: the entry score now, the registration score by graduation.

An honest note

Choose a different field if

  • You chose nursing only for the visa or PR
  • You can’t reach IELTS 7 in speaking and listening even with time
  • You need to start in less than 3 months: a good course choice takes planning.

FAQ

What students ask about nursing abroad.

Which country is best for nursing for Nepali students?

Australia is the most common choice: strong demand, credit for PCL at some universities, and work in aged care while studying. The UK is a good alternative. In Finland and Germany you need the local language to work as a nurse.

What IELTS score is needed for nursing abroad?

For entry, often 6.5 to 7. For registration in Australia, for tests from 23 April 2026: 7 in listening, reading and speaking, and 6.5 in writing.

Can a PCL nurse study a bachelor’s abroad?

Yes. Some Australian universities give credit for a PCL diploma and work experience, which can shorten the degree.

How much does nursing cost in Australia?

Nursing sat in the middle of our Australian tuition range last year. Year 1 costs about Rs 65.9 to Rs 82.9 lakh including living money and the visa.
