The short version

Denmark in numbers.

Denmark teaches through projects and group work, and its graduates are hired quickly. Wages are high, so 20 hours a week covers a real share of your living costs.

The funds rule is kinder than it looks: tuition you've already paid for the first semester counts towards the money you must show.

The table has the rules; the visa section and the process put them in order.

High costs, and high pay to match

SIRI asks you to show DKK 7,426 a month. Copenhagen costs most; Aarhus, Aalborg and Odense less. Bikes replace buses for most students.

Working while you study

20 hours a week in term, about 90 hours a month, and full-time from June to August.

  • Danish wages are high, so 20 hours a week covers a large part of living costs.
  • English jobs exist, but Danish helps, especially outside Copenhagen.
  • Full-time summer work lets many students build a buffer for the next term.

Plan your first three months without a job. Most students find work in month 2 or 3.

Jobs after study

IT, engineering, life sciences and green energy hire international graduates. Danish employers value project experience: student jobs in your field count.

Daily life

Teaching is informal and built on group projects. The Nepali community is small but growing in Copenhagen and Aarhus. Expect rain, wind and excellent cycling.

After the visa

Your first weeks in Denmark.

Your first week

Register for your CPR number, get your yellow health card, open a bank account and set up MitID for digital services.

Your counsellor calls on day 1 and after week 1, with your parents on the same updates.

Study and work, honestly

Group projects mean you can't skip weeks. Twenty hours of work in term, full-time in summer: most of our students save in summer for the autumn.

After graduation

Since 1 April 2023, graduates of a Danish bachelor's, master's or PhD can stay up to 3 years to look for work, and can apply for a full-time work permit for that period. The old establishment card is closed to new applicants.

We stay with you

The same counsellor stays with you to your first semester's results: permit extensions, housing, a change of programme.

Honest fit

Should you choose Denmark?

Good fit

Choose Denmark if

  • You like project and group work more than exams.
  • You can pay the first semester's tuition upfront.
  • You want to work full-time in the summer.

An honest note

Look elsewhere if

  • Your budget can't cover tuition and DKK 7,426 a month together.
  • You want a big Nepali community around you: it's small.
  • You need a February start in most fields: intakes are mostly September.

Paid tuition counts towards your funds. Families who don't know this over-borrow by lakhs. We work out the exact amount after the paid semester, in rupees, before you move any money.
