The cheapest country to study abroad from Nepal: all 10 ranked by real year 1 cost.

Ranked by real year 1 cost in rupees (tuition plus the living money each visa asks you to show), the cheapest of the 10 countries we cover is Germany at a public university (about Rs 21 to Rs 21.9 lakh), then Cyprus, Belgium and Finland before scholarships. The UK and Australia cost most. But the cheapest country isn't always the cheapest degree: a German-taught bachelor's, a Studienkolleg year or a closed job market can cost more in time than it saves.

The short version

  • Cheapest year 1: Germany (about Rs 21 to Rs 21.9 lakh), Cyprus (about Rs 26.4 to Rs 35 lakh), Belgium (about Rs 30.4 to Rs 43.3 lakh), Finland (about Rs 31.2 to Rs 48.3 lakh before waivers).
  • Most expensive: Norway, the UK (about Rs 62.7 to Rs 84 lakh) and Australia (about Rs 65.9 to Rs 82.9 lakh).
  • Finland with a 50% to 100% waiver can beat everything but Germany.
  • The UK's one-year master's makes the whole degree cheaper than its year 1 suggests.
  • Cheap only works if the language, entry route and job market fit you.

All 10, ranked by year 1

Year 1 = tuition on our shortlists last year + the living money each visa asks you to show + the visa or permit fee, at the Nepal Rastra Bank rate of 18 Oct 2026.

Rank Country Year 1 What makes it cheap or expensive
1 Germany (public university) about Rs 21 to Rs 21.9 lakh No tuition; the €11,904 blocked account is the cost
2 Cyprus (Republic) about Rs 26.4 to Rs 35 lakh Low tuition and living costs; limited work
3 Belgium (Flanders) about Rs 30.4 to Rs 43.3 lakh Low tuition for Western Europe
4 Finland about Rs 31.2 to Rs 48.3 lakh before waivers 50% to 100% waivers are common
5 Sweden about Rs 33.8 to Rs 44.5 lakh Tuition, and only 15 hours of work a week now
6 Denmark about Rs 34.8 to Rs 48.5 lakh Tuition; paid tuition counts towards funds
7 Netherlands about Rs 39.1 to Rs 58 lakh Tuition and rent
8 Norway about Rs 46.1 to Rs 63.6 lakh Tuition since 2023, high living figure
9 United Kingdom about Rs 62.7 to Rs 84 lakh High tuition, but a one-year master’s
10 Australia about Rs 65.9 to Rs 82.9 lakh Highest tuition and living figure; strongest work rights

The whole degree changes the order

Master’s Length Approximate whole-course cost
Germany (public) 2 years about Rs 45 to 55 lakh
Finland with a 50% waiver 2 years about Rs 55 to 75 lakh
UK 1 year about Rs 63 to 84 lakh
Australia 2 years about Rs 1 to 1.5 crore

The UK’s one year closes much of the gap with Europe, and Finland’s waivers push it below the UK.

When cheap gets expensive

Country The hidden cost
Germany German for most bachelor’s and most part-time jobs; a Studienkolleg year after +2
Cyprus Limited work; northern Cyprus degrees aren’t recognised in most of Europe
Belgium The visa is lodged in New Delhi
Finland The waiver depends on your grades, and year 2 on your credits
Sweden 15 hours of work a week for new permits from June 2026

From our files. Sagar Rai from Ilam had Rs 9 lakh saved and had been told only Australia would work: Rs 9 lakh didn’t cover a third of Australia’s living money. At a public university in Chemnitz, his biggest cost was the €11,904 blocked account, funded with an education loan. He’s doing an MSc in Mechatronics there.

How to choose the cheapest country that fits

  1. Check your grades against public universities in Germany and the waiver rules in Finland.
  2. Check the language: if you won’t learn German or Finnish, count on English-language job markets.
  3. Check the route: after +2, Germany adds a year; Cyprus and Dutch applied sciences don’t.
  4. Check the money rule: some countries let paid tuition count (Denmark), others want funds for 28 days (UK).
  5. Ask for the option a consultancy earns least on. Most German, Norwegian and Finnish public universities pay no commission; for those our fee is a flat Rs 25,000.

FAQ

What students ask us next.

Which is the cheapest country to study abroad from Nepal?

Germany, at a public university: year 1 costs about Rs 21 to Rs 21.9 lakh, mostly the €11,904 blocked account, because tuition is free outside Baden-Württemberg. Cyprus, Belgium and Finland (before scholarships) come next.

Is Germany really the cheapest?

For tuition, yes. But most bachelor's are taught in German and a +2 student usually needs a Studienkolleg year first, so the degree takes longer. For an English master's with matching grades, it's the cheapest of the 10.

Which is cheaper for Nepali students, the UK or Australia?

The UK, for a master's: about about Rs 62.7 to Rs 84 lakh for a one-year course, against about Rs 65.9 to Rs 82.9 lakh for year 1 of Australia's longer master's.

Which country is cheap and allows work?

Finland (an average 30 hours a week, with scholarships of 50% to 100% common) and Denmark (20 hours a week, full-time in summer, up to 3 years after) balance cost and work well. Germany allows 140 full days a year, but most part-time jobs need German.

Is Norway cheap for Nepali students?

Not any more. Since autumn 2023 Norway charges non-EU students tuition, and its living-cost figure is the highest in Europe: year 1 costs about Rs 46.1 to Rs 63.6 lakh.
