Belgium student visa from Nepal: the trip to New Delhi, the documents and the funds.
Belgium has no long-stay visa service in Kathmandu: the Swiss embassy there handles only short-stay visas for Belgium, so Nepali students lodge the student (type D) visa at VFS in New Delhi. You need an admission letter, about €1,062 a month in funds for 2026/27 (a blocked account with the university or a sponsor's undertaking), a medical certificate, a police certificate if you're 21 or over, and the fees.

The short version
- Nepali students lodge Belgian student visas at VFS in New Delhi; the Swiss embassy in Kathmandu only handles short-stay visas.
- Funds: about €1,062 a month for 2026/27, through a blocked account with the university or a sponsor's undertaking.
- Also needed: a medical certificate and, if you're 21 or over, a police clearance certificate from Nepal.
- Fees: the visa fee and an Immigration Office fee, paid before you apply. Budget the trip to New Delhi too.
- Flemish tuition is low for Europe: €4,500 to €12,000 a year on our shortlists.
Why New Delhi
Belgium’s official page for people living in Nepal is clear: the Swiss embassy in Kathmandu handles short-stay (C) visas for Belgium only. Long-stay applications, including student (D) visas, are lodged at the VFS centre in New Delhi. That means a trip to New Delhi. Nepali citizens don’t need an Indian visa, but budget the travel and a few nights’ stay.
The documents
| Document | Notes |
|---|---|
| Passport, photos, application form | As the VFS checklist specifies |
| Admission letter | From a Belgian university or university college |
| Proof of funds | A blocked account with the university, a sponsor’s undertaking, or a scholarship letter |
| Medical certificate | From a doctor approved by the embassy, on the official form |
| Police clearance certificate | If you’re 21 or over; from Nepal Police, recent |
| Proof of payment of fees | The visa fee and the Immigration Office fee |
| Academic documents | As listed; translations or legalisation if asked |
Check the current VFS checklist for students before you book; documents in the wrong form are the most common reason for a second trip.
The money
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|

| Tuition (our shortlists) | €4,500 to €12,000 a year |
From our files. Bimala Sapkota from Kavre (BE Industrial, 77%) didn’t know Belgium was an option; her budget was too small for the UK. At a Flemish university the tuition fit, and she showed funds at €1,062 a month. We prepared her file for the Belgian process, which isn’t run from Kathmandu, so every document was ready before the appointment. Her visa came in 7 weeks.
