Documents for study abroad from Nepal: the full checklist, and where to get each one.
Most study-abroad files from Nepal need four sets of papers: academic (transcripts, certificates, character and migration certificates), identity (passport, citizenship, birth certificate), money (bank statements, income and tax papers, loan and property papers, the ward relationship certificate), and the step papers (the offer, the NOC, payment receipts, health checks). Start the slow ones first: tax clearance, the CA report, a loan and any APS check take weeks.

The short version
- Four sets: academic, identity, money and step papers (offer, NOC, receipts, medicals).
- Slowest: tax clearance, a CA income report, an education loan, APS (Indian certificates only). Start them first.
- From your college: transcripts, character certificate, and a migration certificate where asked.
- From your ward office: the relationship certificate, and a birth certificate if you don't have one.
- Names and dates must match on every paper. A spelling difference between passport and transcript causes more delays than any missing document.

The mistakes that slow files
- Names that don’t match: “Shrestha” on the passport, “Shresta” on the transcript. Fix it with a one-name affidavit or a corrected document early.
- Missing final certificates: universities wait for them; ask your college when they’ll be issued.
- Nepali-language documents without translations.
- Money papers from different years that tell different income stories.
From our files. Bishnu Lamichhane from Gorkha was rejected once by a Swedish programme because his transcript wasn’t certified the way the portal asks. It had nothing to do with his grades. We fixed the paperwork, not the profile, and he’s now doing an MSc in Stockholm.
